Alex Horvath, Jr.

Alex Horvath, Jr., 73, passed away at 4:01pm Friday, November 11, 2016 in Hospice House. Alex was born on March 7, 1943 in South Bend to Alex and Mary (Bojtor) Horvath, Sr. He retired from Bertrand Products and was a United States Army veteran, driving ambulances and working as a medic. Alex served American Legion Post 50 as Commander in 2008 and Vice-Commander in 2009, is now a member of American Legion Post 357 and M.R. Falcons. He enjoyed mushroom hunting and fishing with his son as well as making Christmas kolach and kiefles and making their famous sausage together. He also enjoyed NASCAR and football, as long as his numbers won, and trips to the casino. On August 17, 1968 he married the former Judy A. Hoeppner. She died on September 8, 2004. Alex was also preceded in death by a step-brother Chuck Somogyi, Jr. Surviving are a son Jeffrey (Karen) Horvath of South Bend, granddaughter Allison, two sisters Sue (Robert) Nolen of Elkhart and Rose (Robert) Densmore of South Bend and a brother Steve (Diane) Horvath of Niles. Memorial services will be celebrated at 1:00pm Thursday, November 17, 2016 in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. Burial of his cremated remains with military services will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may gather from 11:00am until services in the funeral home.
