Christine Meszaros Obituary

Christine Mary Meszaros (Rakowski), 71, passed away at the Sanctuary at Holy Cross on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 after a five year battle with Multiple Myeloma. She was born in South Bend on July 14, 1945 to John Paul and Alice Joan Rakowski, who both preceded her in death. Christine attended St. Hedwig grade school, and St. Josephs High school, where she graduated in 1963. On May 3, 1969, at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in South Bend, Christine married Eugene L. Meszaros, who survives, along with a daughter, Antonette (James) Needham, of South Bend; son Allen Meszaros (Wendy), of Rocky Mount, NC, a grandson, Christopher Needham, her sister, Barbara Wroblewski, sister-in-law, Rosemary Meszaros, all of South Bend. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, enough to populate an entire city. Christine and her husband, Eugene, lived in Rocky Mount, NC, from 1989 until 2001, when they moved back to South Bend. During her time in Rocky Mount, Christine worked at North Carolina Wesleyan College, where she also attended classes. Christine was employed at the University of Notre Dame from November 2001 until March 2015 in the Environmental Research Center. She enjoyed meeting new people and, before her health setbacks, loved to dance. Her favorite activities included attending auctions and estate sales, gambling, and playing Scrabble and euchre with family. She had an infectious laugh, a stubborn streak a mile long, and a smile that lit up a room. Christine wished to leave the following thoughts: Many thanks to Martha Kummerer. Youve been such a good friend to me. To my high school and bowling friends, remember our Girls Night Out. Those were fun times. Please continue to meet and set out an empty plate to remember me. To all the ND Graduate students who passed through our centerthank you for being so supportive and for giving me the courage to face each day with a smile. To Sandy and Jim, you always remembered those special occasions in my life with thoughtful gifts from the heart. To my only grandchild, Christopher, youve always been the sparkle in my life. To my children, I am so very proud of each of you. My wish for you as you grew was to be happy and treat others as you would want to be treated. You have not failed me in that wish. And to Gene, my high school sweetheart, please hang in there and we will soon meet and be together again. Weve been through a lot together. You were my dancing partner, my love, my confidante, my sounding board, my cook. I relied on you more than you know. Without you, I would not have become the person I am. I love you.
