My deepest sympathies to Johns family and friends. Even though I met John only a few years before his passing I will truly miss this amazing and engaging man. I met him at the goodwill close to his home. He struck up a conversation with me. The store had closed the parking lot emptied and I was still talking with this very interesting gentleman 2 hours later. We found common ground my girlfriend competing in woman's bodybuilding and I in high school and college wrestling. John knew many of the local sports legends and was always ready to offer a story about Olympic or international competitors he had known. He seemed to always be having car trouble with his caddy or the BMW he was building for his daughter. I hooked him up with my mechanic and he was eternally grateful. I'd been to his house several times and he showed me some of the literature he had in various stages and said he was trying to organize it all write his memoirs. A book i looked forward to reading but realized it probably never be completed. His health was failing but I think we both enjoyed our conversations that could easily be described as John telling stories and me simply listening offering an occasional comment. His passing came suddenly but he told me he had had trouble with returning pneumonia problems since he was young. I will truly mss this articulate and endlessly interesting honest intellectual who shared some of his life with me through stories. My thoughts and condolences go out to his daughter, family, and close freinds. I am glad I met John Kovach and feel fortunate that I can call him my freind.

Condolences to family on John's passing. He and I became fast friends during the late 1970's, and I will always remember the fabulous vacation we took to South America for a few weeks in 1978. John opened up my life in many ways, and I will miss him. Peace be with you, my friend. Gary (and Kim) Horton
