Neil J. Gerschoffer, 64, passed away at 5:25pm Monday April 18, 2016 in Hospice House. He made a courageous fight against brain cancer for five years. Neil was born January 5, 1952 in South Bend to Joseph and Vivian (Kunz) Gerschoffer. He was a graduate of Riley High School and the owner of Jovis Restaurant & Lounge, which he bought from his dad and mom. The family has owned Jovis for 46 years. Joe and Neil made the best omelets in town, when it was a 24 hours restaurant. Neil enjoyed a lot of things, mostly fishing, the Colts and the White Sox and people. He helped a lot of people, too many to mention, but they know. He also sponsored dart, bowling, and softball teams as well as golf outings and he loved everything. Surviving are his wife Kitty (Hall) Gershoffer of South Bend, his mother Vivian Krueger-Gerschoffer of South Bend, companion Sharon Plank of South Bend, four brothers Mark Gerschoffer, Kerry Gerschoffer, David Gerschoffer all of South Bend and Paul Gerschoffer of Pompano Beach, FL, niece Melanie (Gary) Fischer, nephews Daniel (Amy) Carter and Wes (Aimee) Carter as well as other numerous nieces and nephews. Neil was preceded in death by his father, step-dad Les Krueger and niece Ashley Gerschoffer. The family would like to thank the Oncology office of Dr. Rafat Ansari and RN Brandi, Hospice House & Staff especially Abby and Candice, all the employees, customers and good friends of Jovis including Lori McBride who have been there for him and the business. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 1-4pm in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care.
