SOUTH BEND Katherine Maxine Myers was born June 9, 1924 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Maxwell and Hazell Hughes.Katie was a member of the "Women of the Moose Lady" for many years where she worked as a waitress. She loved her job of many years working at St. Joseph Hospital where she had eventually retired.Katie loved every aspect of life. Her highlights included being around her family, fishing, playing poker, being at the lake, baking her famous goodies, and working in the yard.She was well known around the area and known as "Mom" to many of the kids around, especially, Marianne Schosker, whom Katie still saw on a weekly basis and considered her daughter.Katherine is survived by her son Ben (Joyce) Bendit, daughter Kathy Trumbull, step daughters Judy Anis and Nancy Weiss, son William (Patty) Myers, and daughter Jackie Wilson. Her grandchildren Ben (Katina) Bendit Jr, Jeff (Melanie) Bendit, Stefanie (Matthew) Michell, Jennifer (Alex) Abraham, Tonya (Jacob) Harrel, Dawn (Chuck) Ridenour, Megan Trumbull, Will Myers, David Myers, Casey (Jacoby) Dosch, Kevin (Lori) Bendit, Carly Bendit, Crystal Bendit, Ryan Bendit amongst many other great, and great-great grandchildren.Katherine is preceded in death by her husband William Myers, brother Jack Hughes, brother William Hughes, son Jerry Bendit, grandson Larry Bendit and grandson Joey Bendit.The family would like to thank Asera Care Hospice for the special care and compassion they have provided for our mother and her family. She will be sincerely missed by all the lives she has touched.Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Zahoran Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
