Mary M. Kovach, 100, passed to her heavenly destination on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.Mary was born on January 6, 1918 in South Bend to Karl and Johanna (Buzolich) Derdak. She was the third of four siblings. Mary was a homemaker and assisted her husband operating Charlies Tavern. She was also a member of the former St. Anthony Society Ladies Auxiliary. On January 19, 1946 she married Charles A. "Crab" Kovach. He died on April 26, 1981. Mary was also preceded in death by a sister Frances Szauer and two brothers Victor Derdak and John Derdak.She is survived by her daughter Judith (John) Stenger, grandchildren Cynthia Stenger, Lisa (Joseph) Thomas, Jennifer (David) Zent, and Kristen (Brian) Hirsch and 11 great-grandchildren.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Monday, October 8, 2018 in St. Anthony de Padua Church, 2320 E. Jefferson Blvd. South Bend. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may gather from 10-11am Monday in the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony de Padua Catholic School. Zahoran Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
