Thomas Nowinski Obituary

It is with much sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas B. Nowinski, 62 of Granger, IN on January 2, 2019 at 2:53 a.m. surrounded by his loving family. Tommy was born on January 22, 1956 in South Bend, IN to the late John and Mary Jane (Wojciechowski) Nowinski. He attended St. Hedwig and Our Lady of Hungary grade schools and Marian High School - class of 1975. While at Marian he was on the Wrestling team and was captain of the Cross Country team. 'Chicken' won numerous awards. Tom retired in 2013 after 38 years at A.M. General. Tom was an avid Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Notre Dame Football fan. He loved to travel and cruise with his wife Ronna, friends and family. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking and would often surprise his family and friends with what he made. He took pride in the landscaping of their home which was always immaculate. He also enjoyed playing trivia with his family at the Kankakee Grille inside the Four Winds Casino. Tom was known for his dancing like Michael Jackson and loved to listen and sing along to the oldies. He also loved to throw parties and always made sure his guests were well taken care of. On June 9, 1990 in South Bend, IN he married his loving wife Ronna Krolzick. She survives along with his siblings, Ken Nowinski of Mishawaka, Kay (Leonard) Wenzel of South Bend, Sue (Rick) Cross of South Bend, Ellen (Greg) Fobe of Mishawaka, Jim Nowinski of South Bend and Mike (Stacy) Nowinski of Ogden, UT. He is also survived by his step-daughters, Sherry Lauren and Angie Seigert, his nieces and nephews, John and his son Nolan Nowinski, Matt Wenzel, Amy Wenzel, Justin (Laura) Vera and their children Nick and Albrie, Kyle Fobe, Lisa Nowinski, Michelle (Ryon) Sinkovics and many, many, many friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his Dachshund Toby who he adored. Tom was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church and had a great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary by praying the rosary daily and was active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society for many years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Friends may call at Zahoran's Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Ave. on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family would like to thank Laura Lethridge and the staff at Senior Care for their loving care and attention. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Tom was a good friend and neighbor to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
