Amelia Galos, 97, passed away at 9:35pm Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in Healthwin Specialized Care.
Amelia was born on April 8, 1924 in Nagycenk, Hungary to Janos and Ilona (Szabo) Ban. She was employed by Enro Shirt Company and retired from Wells Electronics. Amelia was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church and loved animals, cooking, gardening and working in the yard.
Amelia was a strong woman who endured being born into a country that had been dismantled after the First World War, lived through the Depression, the terrors of the Second World War with occupation by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, the crushing of the Hungarian Revolution, escape to Austria and ultimately the United States in 1959. Amelia became a US citizen in 1966 and worked hard all of her life, beginning work in the United States a few days after her arrival. Her greatest enjoyments were having family around and cooking an army’s worth of food for them and caring for an innumerable number of cats over the years.
The family would like to thank the staff at Healthwin for the care they gave Amelia over the past few years, especially Lisa James and her therapy staff and her nurse, Brittany and all of the other nurses and aides who cared for her. The family asks that you all wear masks at the visitation for your health and the health of others.
On May 9, 1959 in Austria she married Ernest Galos. He died on October 27, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a son Ferenc Szabo, a sister Irene Horvath, four brothers Sandor Ban, Arpad Ban, Bela Ban, and Erno Ban and a nephew Louis Somogyi. Surviving are a son Ernest P.
