Ann Medich Obituary

Ann Medich, 101, passed away on May 1, 2026, just shy of her 102nd birthday, at Raclin Hospice House in Mishawaka, after a brief illness.

Ann was born on July 20, 1924 in South Bend to the late Michael and Anna Mandich.  She married Bud Medich on June 30, 1947 and they shared 65 years together, until his death in 2012.

Ann grew up on the southwest side on Scott Street, just south of Indiana Avenue.  She lived just behind her church, Sts. Peter & Paul Serbian Orthodox Church, where she was a lifelong member.  She walked to Oliver School and then to the original Washington High School on Sample Street where she graduated in 1942.  She then went onto work at Bendix to support the war effort.

Ann was a devoted wife and mother who had a long rich and fulfilling life.  She was a wonderful cook and baker, having learned from her mother Serbian and Croatian dishes and pastries.  Every Saturday she baked a cake, pie and cookies to last for the week.  She was a stay at home Mom until 1970 when she went to work at the Riley High School Cafeteria.  There she was a favorite of the students because she sold hamburgers and milk shakes at the snack bar.  She retired in 1990.  When often asked, how do you explain you longevity, she would say I worked hard, never smoked, never drank, and never drove a car.

Ann is survived by her son David and wife Mary, her two granddaughters Lauren Medich Riggs (Matthew) and Amanda Medich Dulude (Andy).  She also has four great-grandsons Elijah and Benjamin Riggs and Samuel and Charles Dulude.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband Bud, son Robert Steven, her parents Michael and Anna Mandich, brothers Steven Mandich and Paul Mandich and sisters Olga Tatich and Helen Petkovich.

The family wants to thank all of the nurses and staff at Raclin House for the compassionate care and love they gave Ann during her final days.  You are all amazing !

Also a shout out to all of her dear friends and staff at the Village of Arborwood who checked on her daily to make sure she was OK and were just there for her whenever she needed something.

The funeral will be on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Sts. Peter & Paul Serbian Orthodox Church, 59250 Keria Trail, South Bend, IN 46614.  Visitation will be from 10-12 and the service will begin at 12 with Fr. Vladimir Lange officiating.  Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations in Ann’s memory be made to the church and Raclin Hospice House, 535 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
