Carmelo Maugeri, 90, passed away at 1:25am Thursday, October 8, 2020 in Memorial Hospital.
Carmelo was born on October 8, 1930 in Calabria, Italy to Michael and Rose (Filomena) Maugeri. He retired in 1994 from Art Mosaic Tile, where he was employed as a bricklayer. Carmelo was passionate about his garden, and even had an article written about him in the South Bend Tribune titled “A Garden grows in the City”. He also loved chestnut trees. On June 12, 1952 in Siderno Marina, Italy he married Concetta Macri. She died on June 24, 2008. Carmelo was also preceded in death by a daughter Rose Maugeri and a sister Mary Restuccia.
Surviving are a son Michael (Barbara) Maugeri, two sisters Concetta (Rocco) Urso and Katherine (Edward) Macri and two brothers Angelo Maugeri and Joseph Maugeri.
Funeral services will be celebrated at 12:00pm Tuesday, October 13, 2020 in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. Entombment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 10-12 Tuesday in the funeral home. Social distancing guidelines will be enforced. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association.
