Doris I. (Howard) Vas

Doris I. Vas was born February 7, 1928 in South Bend, IN to the late Cecil and Bettie (Bray) Howard.  Doris passed away peacefully with family by her side at Memorial Hospital.

On July 2, 1945 she married Frank L. Vas in Cherry Point, North Carolina. Doris and Frank owned Shoeland North Store for many years until their retirement.  They spent winters in Marco Island enjoying the family visits and all the friends they met on the island.  She was a long time member of St. Jude Catholic Church.

Doris loved spending time with her family and was blessed to have the years to watch her family grow.  She will be deeply missed by her family.  Doris will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a wonderful homemaker.

Surviving is her husband Frank of 78 years, son Larry (Kathy) Vas of Chandler, AZ, daughters Carolyn (Dale) Glon of Marco Island, FL, Susan (Jeffrey) Dierbeck of South Bend, and Pamela (Kenneth) Ricci of Cleveland, OH, grandchildren Jennifer Dierbeck, grandma’s loving care giver for several years, Ryan Vas, JoAnna Dierbeck-Williams, Cortnee Booth, Elizabeth Ricci, Natalie Vas, step-grandchildren Kennedy and Austin Ricci, and great-grandchildren Violet Williams, Weston Booth, and Micah Booth.

Doris and the family would like to thank the staff at Hamilton Grove, Southfield Village and Memorial Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Wednesday, March 20, 2024 in St. Jude Catholic Church.
