Doris (Yost) Young

Doris Young, 88, passed away Monday, May 22, 2023 in Southfield Village.

Doris was born on September 10, 1934 in Catawissa, PA to Charles and Sara (Fetterman) Yost.  They preceded her in death along with three brothers Robert Yost, James Yost, and Richard Yost.  Surviving are two daughters Lana (Ken) Huys of Lakeville, IN and Lyn Young of Orlando, FL, a grandson Harrison (Megan) Huys, three great-grandchildren Emmett, Gus, and Cooper, a sister Althea Carl, a brother Dale (Margaret) Yost, Josephine (Bob) Yost, many nieces and nephews, as well as the extended families of Ken Huys and Kim Huys and their respective children and grandchildren. 

After high school, Doris attended school in Kansas City to become a teletype operator.  She went on to work for La Guardia airport in New York City and later moved to Las Vegas to continue her career. After marrying, she relocated to Los Angeles where her first daughter, Lana, was born. A few years later, the family moved to Cape Cod, MA where Lyn was born. Doris was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 29.  Though she endured a lot throughout the years, she never once allowed her diagnosis to slow her down. Doris was fortunate to meet her companion Roger while living on Cape Cod. Doris and Roger enjoyed fishing together and taking regular trips to Florida throughout the years.  She loved to travel and was always ready to go. She parasailed and ziplined at the age of 80, she was an amazing woman. Doris was a mother to many.  She had a great love for all of her animals. She enjoyed shopping, keeping up with the latest fashions, and getting her nails done.

Cremation will take place.  Memorial contributions may be made to a local animal shelter of your choice.
