Esther M. Kary Jankowski, 104, passed away at 2:10am Friday, September 23, 2022 in Bell Tower Health & Rehab.
Esther was born on March 24, 1918 in South Bend to Louis and Cecelia (Mnichowski) Horvath. She was employed by Bendix, Hillview Dairy and retired in 1984 from Lane Bryant where she was employed for 16 years. Esther was the oldest parishioner of Our Lady of Hungary Church where she was also a member of the St. Anne Society and Sacred Heart and Rosary Society.
On November 27, 1937 in Our Lady of Hungary Church she married Alex J. Kary Jr. He died on March 5, 1968. On November 30, 1985 in St. Patrick’s Church she married Frank Jankowski. He died on February 9, 1987. Esther was also preceded in death by a brother Leo Horvath, her step-father Jay Bennett, a step-daughter Janice Weinberg, step-grandchild Kelly Weinberg, two step-sisters Vivian Stuart and Norma Engdahl, and a step-brother Vaud Bennett.
Surviving are a daughter Nancy (Earl) Vandygriff and son Jack (Janet) Kary, step-daughter Mary Ann (Herbert) Herendeen, step-son-in-law Kevin Weinberg, 3 grandchildren Jack (Jennifer) Kary, Connie Everts, and Kim (Nick) Stevenson, 6 step-grandchildren Jim (Jennifer) Weinberg, Laura (Jack) Latson, Karen (Ray) Glon, Tom (Jill) Weinberg, Drew (Jamie) Herendeen, and Angie (Scott) Ferris, 4 great-grandchildren, 18 step-great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Tuesday, September 27, 2022 in Our Lady of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Viewing will take place from 4-7 Monday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hungary Church.
