Gabor Oross

Gabor Oross passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at his home. 

He was born on January 11, 1937 in Nagybajcs, Hungary to Gabor and Erzsebet Oross who preceded him in death in 1944 and in 1999, respectively.  Gabor’s sister, Veronika, preceded him in death last year. 

After technical school, Gabor became an electrician in Hungary.  In 1956, he bravely escaped communist Hungary during the uprising, without his family and friends.  Gabor always claimed never to have quite known how he ended up in South Bend.  After a year, he was employed as an electrician. Gabor met his wife, Margaret, through mutual friends and married in 1968.  He began his own electrical contracting company, Oross Electric, in 1972, and did not retire until 2014 at the age of 77.  Gabor’s passion in life was to provide a better life for his children than he had growing up.  He enjoyed his family, profession, Hungarian traditions, cooking Hungarian foods, working on home projects, husbandry of fruit trees, and mowing the lawn, even with an oxygen tank. 

Gabor is survived by his wife, Margaret, of 54 years, son, Andrew (Teresa) of South Bend, daughters Susan (Cary) Wiggins of Atlanta, GA, Lisa (Mark) Klopenstine of Fort Mill, SC, Loretta (Carl) Bevering of Tupelo, MS, and 10 grandchildren, whom he was proud of and adored. 

Visitation will be from 4-8 Thursday, January 12, at Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue.  A Vigil Service will take place at 7:00pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Friday, January 13, 2023 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473  State Road 933.  Committal will be at Highland Cemetery immediately following.  Donations may be made in Gabor’s name to Christ the King Catholic Church or a charity of choice.  To leave an online condolence, visit our website http://www.zahoran.com or our facebook page Zahoran Funeral Home.
