Helen A. (Radich) Mersits

Helen A. Mersits, 87, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2024.

Helen was born on February 15, 1936, to John and Mary (Dimlich) Radich.  On September 2, 1957, in South Bend, she married Anthony (Tony) M. Mersits. He died on January 13, 2024.  Love does last forever!

Helen was also preceded in death by a son Anthony M. Mersits II, a grandson Kevin J. McCombs, son-in-law William J. McCombs and a sister Mary J. Radich.

Surviving are a daughter Anita (John Carpenter) McCombs, a son John Mersits, three grandchildren Joseph (Lindsey) McCombs, Katelyn Mersits, and Meredith Mersits, and daughter-in-law Melissa Mersits.

Helen was a graduate of Saint Joseph’s High School and a proud member of the first graduating class. She also attended South Bend College of Commerce.

Mersits Grocery was a family business which she successfully operated with Tony for 25 years. Helen was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where she served as the organist for many years. She also belonged to the St. Anthony Society Ladies Auxiliary, Holy Cross Altar Rosary Society, and Women of the Moose.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Friday, January 26, 2024, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.  Viewing will take place from 4:00-7:00pm Thursday, January 25, 2024, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue where a rosary will be recited at 5:00pm.
