John W. Horth Jr.

John W. Horth, Jr. 86, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 in St. Joseph Regional Med Center.

John was born on May 16, 1937 in South Bend to John and Catherine (Barkovich) Horth Sr.  On February 8, 1958 he married the former Rosalie Glon.  She died on June 28, 2022.  He was also preceded in death by a grandson Joshua Glod.

Surviving are a daughter Therese (John) Hedges, two sons Michael (Renee) Horth and Donald (Penny) Horth, 5 grandchildren Zachary Horth, Hillary (Mario) Navarette, Marie (Kris) Johnson, Nicole Butler and Jason (Sarah) Basker, 8 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and a sister Mary Kathleen Horvath.

John was employed by Horth Grocery, H & H Aerospace and Zahoran Funeral Home.  He was a member or Our Lady of Hungary Church, served on the board of Sacred Heart Cemetery, was a member of the former St. Anthony Society.  John was a train enthusiast and loved to play euchre.  Every family get together euchre was involved – we couldn’t get the table cleaned fast enough for the games to begin.

Dad’s other love besides Rosalie was his 1964 Studebaker Cruiser.  He loved to drive it around town, especially when the drivers club had meets in South Bend.  He loved to fly-fish for bluegill at Indian Lake, his smile could light up a room.

The family would also like to thank the entire staff at Brookdale, Granger, for their help and support, especially Tara, Kurt, Vanessa and Jamie.

Dad was a wonderful Father, Papa, and Great-Papa and he will be greatly missed, but we know he is at peace, he is back with Mom, the love of his life, whom he missed dearly.

Viewing will take place from 3-7 Wednesday, September 6, 2023 in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue where a rosary will be recited at 5:00pm   Viewing will also be possible for 1 hour prior to the funeral mass in Our Lady of Hungary Church.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Thursday, September 7, 2023 in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
