Juanita A. (Aguilar) Carrillo

Juanita “Janie” Carrillo passed away on Thursday April 10th, 2025, in her hometown, Somerset, TX at the age of 82.  She was born February 20, 1943, to Esiquio Aguilar and Juanita Rivera. 

Her parents, her son, Joe “Whop” Carrillo, and her sisters Petra and Maria preceded her in death.  

She is survived by her husband Domingo Carrillo Sr, children, Rebecca (Neal) Wright of Mishawaka, IN and Domingo Carrillo, Jr. (South Bend, IN), sisters, Gloria Urias, Lupe Arguello, and Francisca Machado and a brother Victor Aguilar (Somerset, TX). Her grandchildren, Neal Jr, and Abagail Wright, Chloe, Cadence and Joe Carrillo Jr.  In addition to a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Janie enjoyed gardening, socializing, making jokes, listening to music, and getting dressed up—especially if she was going to a dance.  Janie loved to listen and dance to her Tejano music.  She also enjoyed a good polka dance at the annual Our Lady of Hungary festival. 

Anyone who knew Janie knew she loved her flowers and plants, all things purple and her friends and family.  She was an incredibly kind person.  Janie had a unique way to let those important to her know how much she loved them.  She was kind to all and loved and respected by many.  She will not only be missed by her family and friends; she will be missed by many residing on the South Side of South Bend—as many would stop by to see Mrs. Carrillo or those who simply pulled over to tell her they loved her flowers!

May the love that Janie, also known as Mrs. Carrillo, forever “bloom in our hearts”.

A memorial service will take place on Wednesday April 16th, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm at Camero Funeral Home, 20567 TX-16, Von Ormy, TX 78073.  There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at The Landing, 2801 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN  46614 from 2:00-6:00 pm.
