Laszlo Nemeth

Laszlo was born  October 23, 1961. He was the only child of Hungarian immigrants George and Helen Nemeth – who preceded him in death.   

Laszlo graduated from Saint Joseph’s High School class of 1980.  He was very well read and had acquired an impressive repertoire of arcane knowledge and historical trivia that made him a desired trivia partner.  He loved crossword puzzles.  To support his crossword habit, he would walk to the nearby ND campus South Dining hall to purchase Chicago Tribune & other newspapers.  This helped him to keep abreast of the news.  The walk also provided opportunities to enjoy the beautiful campus and lake.  He was intelligent, enjoying art, literature and conversing on various subjects. Laz had a wry endearing sense of humor and was quick to share his latest joke.  

Laszlo was a valuable resource for numerous organizations and companies.  Including: Sibleys, Tippecanoe place, Bartender at Loadsville, Chips and other establishments. Probably his favorite job was one of his first: Notre Dame beach attendant.  At this job, he also developed exceptional Frisbee skills.  

Laz was enterprising:  Demonstrated by providing private parking near ND on home football game Saturdays. He had game day fans who knew him and would return season after season.  He also started and ran a groundskeeping business.  

Laszlo loved music.  He admired highly skilled musicians who demonstrated exceptional creativity by their cerebral witty lyrics.   Among his top echelon were: Elvis Costello. Warren Zevon and Frank Zappa. Hands down, THE WHO were his most favored band. Laszlo’s life epitomized Iggy Pop’s song “Lust For Life”.  Back in ‘the day’, he enjoyed attending ‘The Wandell’s’ concerts.   

He adored his childhood home. He never wanted to leave there. So it is fitting that is where he spent his last moments when he passed July 8, 2025.

A celebration of life will be held Monday 7/6/26 at 6:00 pm.  St Joseph Valley Memorial park.  Site is near Cleveland about midway between Grape and Main.
