Orben E. "Bill" Bennett, Jr., 86, passed away at 10:15pm Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in Hospice House. Orben was born on July 16, 1930 in South Bend to Orben and Nina (Rogers) Bennett, Sr. Bill worked for Goshen Industries, was a Korean War veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps, where he received a Purple Heart. He also was a State Commander for 4 years and a member of the VFW #360. On June 20, 1997 he married Diana Hipskind who survives. Also surviving are his 3 daughters Deborah Boothroyd of California, Karen Lelevier of California and Brenda Dedrickson of Utah and a sister Evelyn Day. Bill was preceded in death by 2 brothers Gerhart Bennett and Lyle Bennett and 3 sisters Bernice Eichorst, Virginia Fagan and Pauline Hyatt. Funeral services will be celebrated at 1:00pm Saturday, January 21, 2017 in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue where friends may gather from 11:00am until services. Burial will take place at a later date in Marion National Cemetery.
