Patsy Jo (Vailes) Reed

Patsy Vailes Reed finished her race here on earth and went home to heaven on August 31, 2023.  She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Dorothy Vailes of Jacksonville, AR and her late husband John W. Reed of South Bend, IN and step-son James R. Reed of Niles, MI. 

Surviving are her children Timothy Humphries and Bethany Wachs (Steven) and granddaughter Alexis Humphries of South Bend, IN.  A much loved sister Betty Sumner of Jacksonville, AR.  She was always a caregiver in many ways for their parents and other family members as well as Patsy.  And a wonderful cousin, Dewan Laws, who was of great help to her in the end to which she was very grateful.

Also surviving are a step-daughter Laura Jeffery (Peter) and step-son Johnny (Tami) and wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Patsy was born to Joe and Dorothy Vailes on October 18, 1949 in Jacksonville, AR.  She had an ordinary childhood growing up in a small town.  She graduated from Jacksonville High School.  She also graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s Degree and from End Time University.  Patsy owned and directed Magic Rainbow Mini School for 10 years and also worked for Madison Center and Hospital for 17 years until it closed.

Patsy attended the Church of Nazarene in which most of her life was deeply rooted.  She currently attended New Beginnings Community Fellowship Church of the Nazarene in South Bend, IN.  She liked to play the keyboard and decorated.  She also liked to write plays and readings.  She dearly loved every person in the church.  Many thanks to Reverend Scott and Karen Hollebrands for their prayers and support in everything.

She had a host of dearly loved family members from a previous marriage and lifelong friends, especially Linda Akin a lifelong friend since grade school and Judy Gushwa, a college friend.

Funeral services will be celebrated at 12:00pm Tuesday, September 5, 2023 in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue.  A viewing will take place on from 11am until services in the funeral home.  She will be laid to rest in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Jacksonville, AR.  In lieu of flowers any memorial gifts should go to New Beginnings Community Fellowship Church of the Nazarene, 19688 Kern Road, South Bend, IN 46614.  Her wishes are that any memorials go to the Compassionate Ministries Fund.
