Richard L. Martin, 95, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 1, 2021 at his home.
Richard was born on September 27, 1925 in Racine, WI to Henry and Theodora (Vercoutere) Martin. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served in the Pacific Islands during WW II, and in China immediately after the war.
Richard’s goal during the war was to come home, marry a nice girl and raise a family. That happen on June 24, 1950 when he married Jane Kothe, who pre-deceased him 2 years to the day of his own passing.
Together Richard and Jane had 3 children. Diane (Steve) Beecher, Jim (Karla) Martin and Ellen (Ron) Plaisted, 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Rosemary Richow of Racine, WI.
Richard was a hard working traveling man who enjoyed a long and successful career in the sales and service of marine engines, working for various companies. At the age of 40, he returned to college to complete his Bachelor of Science degree.
In retirement, Richard and Jane enjoyed numerous vacations, cruises, and time spent with their family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Tuesday, May 4, 2021 in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 920 Wilbur St. South Bend, IN 46628. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Family and friends may visit with the family from 10-11 Tuesday in the church.
