Rosemary T. Andert, a beloved South Bend resident, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 5, 1941, to Victor and Rose (Desich) Nemeth, Rosemary dedicated her life to family, faith, and community.
After graduating from nursing school in 1959, Rosemary began her career at Chicago’s Children’s Hospital, later transitioning to Memorial Hospital of South Bend. However, her true passion lay in nurturing her family. She and her husband, Stephen M. Andert, whom she married in 1966, raised their children on their family dairy farm. Rosemary was always present at her children’s activities, offering unwavering support.
Rosemary’s love for books and helping others led her to a career as a librarian. A devout Catholic, she was actively involved in Right to Life and Bible Study groups. She was a vibrant member of her community, often seen walking her dog, Kaz, tending to her garden, or volunteering at Catholic Church events. Rosemary’s thirst for knowledge led her to enroll in classes at Forever Learning and The Kroc Center, always eager to embrace new experiences.
Rosemary was a cherished matriarch, adored by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved hosting family gatherings and sharing her culinary talents, especially her famous homemade bread, particularly the beloved Christmas cinnamon bread.
Rosemary’s legacy is one of love, faith, and service. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Rosemary is survived by her husband, Stephen, and 6 children; Stephen (Brenda) Andert of South Bend, Janice Andert of South Bend, Pam (Tasos) Anastasiou Of Galien, Chris Andert of South Bend, Ed (Yesenia) Andert of Lakeville, Rosanne Andert of Oregon; 7 Grandchildren; Elizabeth (Joel) Miller, Jeffrey Smith, Michael (Annalise) Smith, Jerry Andert, John Andert, Evan Andert, & Haley Andert; and 2 great grandchildren; Céleste Smith & Estelle Smith; brother Vic (Celine) Nemeth many nieces and nephews, her sister in law Jo Wegh, Paula (David) Bashover, and brother in law Jack Vukovits. Rosemary is preceded in death by her parents, Victor & Rose (Desich) Nemeth, brother, John Nemeth, and infant daughter, Barbara Andert.
Visitation will take place at Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Ave, South Bend, IN 46613 on Wednesday November 13, 2024. from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30pm in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church.
