William “Bill” Egyhazi, age 100, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, at St. Paul’s Retirement Community in South Bend.
Bill was born on November 19, 1925, to the late Julius and Elizabeth Egyhazi and was a lifelong resident of South Bend.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy (Sroda) Egyhazi on April 21, 1951. She preceded him in death on February 19, 1981. On September 4, 1982, Bill married Fayelene (Roetzel) Egyhazi, who preceded him in death on October 31, 2013.
Surviving Bill are his son Bill (Diane) Egyhazi; grandchildren Lisa (Bryan) Penny and Molly (Eric) Swanson; great-grandchildren Bryson and Logan Penny, and Colette and Marissa Gregorich; his sister Florence “Cookie” Wisneski; and stepchildren Liz Roetzel and James (Lisa) Roetzel.
He was preceded in death by his son Jim Egyhazi; brothers Julius, John, Stephen, Joseph, and his twin brother Carl Egyhazi; sisters Frances Mittermeyer, Martha Egyhazi, and Elizabeth Wolfram; and stepson John B. Roetzel.
Bill deeply enjoyed time spent with family and friends. For 35 years, he treasured his lake cottage, where many family gatherings and celebrations were held. Known for his great sense of humor, Bill loved dancing—especially polkas—traveling, visiting casinos, fishing, and family get-togethers. He lived in his home until the age of 99 and moved to St. Paul’s Retirement Community this past July.
While still with us, Bill was joyfully celebrated at his 100th birthday gathering with family and friends, including a trip to the casino—something he truly enjoyed.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Paul’s Retirement Community for the love and care Bill received, as well as to Caring Cove Hospice for their compassion and support in helping him find peace.
